Changing your address with AIMA: deadline, channel and evidence
To change your address with AIMA, check the notification period and application status. The relevant subject differs between a pending renewal and an update without that active procedure.

Short answer
Foreigners Law Article 86 requires notifying AIMA of an address or marital-status change within 60 days of the change.
What is the deadline for notifying AIMA of a new address?
Moving can affect several records, but changing your tax address should not be assumed to update AIMA automatically. The duty recorded below has its own recipient and period. Establish when the move occurred and which residence document is involved. This page covers notification to AIMA within the stated regime rather than presenting a complete list of obligations to every organisation, employer or service provider.

How to use this guide
Move
Record when the move occurred and which permit the notification concerns.
Procedure
Distinguish pending renewal from updating details without that active procedure.
Evidence
Keep the submission and confirmation; receipt does not always establish completion.
Other records
Do not assume that changing one address automatically updates every organisation.

Which address-update subject applies with or without renewal?
The official guidance consulted distinguishes a renewal context from someone already holding a permit without that pending procedure. Look for the option describing your real circumstances. Do not create a fictional renewal simply to upload a new address. If your document falls under another regime, check its instructions before transferring this procedure to it.
The Portuguese subject names appear in the fact card so an approximate translation does not send you to an unrelated option. An update without a new card must not be advertised as a universal promise of free replacement documentation.

AIMA’s March FAQ distinguishes an address request linked to the Renewals Portal from “Alteração de dados” when the person holds a card and has no pending case; it lists a no-new-card option for the latter.
Have identification, permit reference, current contact information and relevant address evidence ready, following the applicable instruction. This is editorial preparation rather than a closed official attachment list. Enter the complete address and check postcode, locality and consistency between fields. Avoid adding relatives’ documents or unrelated financial information that does not help explain the update.
Where the previous address differs from the one displayed in the case, explain the discrepancy objectively. Do not edit evidence to make it match; obtain the right document or ask the official channel how to clarify the difference.
Keep delivery evidence without assuming completion
Save the message, actual attachments, date and channel confirmation. An automated email can establish receipt without confirming that the update was completed. Record its reference and follow subsequent instructions. We do not assign a guaranteed response period to this procedure or recommend sending the same request every day merely because an answer has not arrived.
When asking about progress, refer to the existing submission and explain the specific problem. That supports follow-up without creating multiple requests that become difficult to connect with each other or with the underlying residence case.
Pending renewal: continue monitoring the main procedure
Moving during renewal does not remove the need to follow that application. Continue checking requests for evidence and appointment messages, preserving your replies. Updating an address and proving the status of a renewal are connected tasks, but neither replaces the other. An address notification should not be described as submitting renewal where no renewal application was actually made.
If you lost access to the registered contact channel, establish how to correct that issue rather than assuming that changing a postal address restores account access or redirects electronic messages automatically.
Example: you moved but the old address remains on the card
First distinguish notifying a new address from following a specific instruction to obtain another document. Keep evidence of the update and AIMA’s reply without assuming that a request automatically produces a replacement card. Verify other organisations’ records separately rather than inferring that the entire administrative system now contains the same details.
Before finishing, check the address spelling and delivery evidence. For an unusual documentary situation, seek the applicable instructions instead of substituting invented declarations or somebody else’s details for the evidence actually requested.
