The end of manifestação de interesse: historical cases and transition
Portugal’s manifestação de interesse route was repealed. Distinguish earlier applications and specific transitional cases from attempts to start a new case using historical instructions.

Short answer
Manifestation-of-interest procedures were repealed from 4 June 2024; those started by 3 June 2024 have the published transitional safeguard.
Sources: AIMA; Diário da República ·Law 61/2025 set 31 December 2025 as the submission deadline for the category in Article 3(2)(b) of Decree-Law 37-A/2024, on pain of lapse.

The cited transitional deadline does not govern every permit or reopen the repealed route.

Is manifestação de interesse still open in 2026?
An official page containing older instructions does not establish that you can still begin the described procedure. First locate its repeal warning and the date defining the scope of earlier cases. Apply the same care to videos and screenshots. Historical instructions may explain a case protected by transition without supplying a legal basis for a new application submitted today through a mechanism that was repealed.

| Repeal | Read the repeal warning before following historical instructions on the page. |
| Earlier case | Find submission evidence and current notifications, not merely documents showing employment. |
| Transition | Identify the specific category; the date does not govern every residence authorisation. |
| New application | A current professional relationship does not by itself reopen the repealed mechanism. |

Last checked:Transition has its own categories and dates
Do not group every pre-repeal situation into one category. An already initiated case and a situation covered by a specific transitional provision need not be identical. The date below concerns the group identified in that provision, not all residence authorisations. Before deciding that a deadline governs your circumstances, find the relevant paragraph and evidence supporting the particular transitional basis you intend to rely on.

Last checked:How can you check an earlier manifestação de interesse case?
Collect the original submission evidence, reference, received messages and replies sent. Distinguish registering on a platform from actually submitting the procedure, and both from documents that only show employment activity. Organise records by the event date while preserving originals. Start with any current summons or decision: an individual instruction may require action that a general transition summary cannot describe.
A discussion with an intermediary is not a substitute for evidence issued by the official system. An organised file makes it possible to ask about the existing application without sending an unnecessary new request.
Working now without an earlier submission
A contract, contribution history or tax number does not by itself establish current access to the repealed route. Do not assume a new payment or registration recreates a closed mechanism. Identify your entry and residence circumstances and investigate routes currently applicable to your actual objective. This article does not select a universal alternative or promise regularisation without an assessment.
When seeking individual guidance, describe dated facts and make clear that there was no older submission. That helps prevent receiving an answer designed for a procedure that you never actually began.
Recognising an unreliable promise
Treat claims of reopening cautiously unless they identify a law, date and current official channel. Ask for the exact procedure rather than accepting phrases such as guaranteed regularisation. A service provider can help with administration without controlling the authority’s decision. Avoid handing over credentials or sensitive documents to demonstrate eligibility that has not yet been explained.
Useful guidance distinguishes enacted law, operational instructions and the commentator’s opinion. Without that separation, it is difficult to know whether a statement describes a current rule, a proposed change or somebody else’s historical application.
Five questions before taking action
Which route was invoked? Is there evidence of submission? When did it occur? Does the cited transitional provision cover that event? Is a current notification awaiting a reply? Write down documentary answers and mark uncertainties. This preparation does not guarantee an outcome, but makes an individual consultation more precise and reduces reliance on unrelated accounts from other applicants.
The sources below support the stated repeal and transition. Future changes require checking with Diário da República and AIMA; public discussion of a possible route is not evidence that the route has already opened.
When asking about an older case, identify the latest notification and the action needing clarification. Do not post passport numbers or personal references in a public comment. Use appropriate documents through an appropriate channel, keeping the original history available for checking rather than publishing the entire file.
